To look at the California state government one would have to say it's in a pickle. Subsequently, we the residents of the State of California are in a pickle. This wasn't just a 'perfect storm"; it was a Kafkaesque nightmare that only ends when there's nothing left.
For starters, we're going to raise taxes and cut services and unfortunately the cut services may be services you use. Like state parks. As big and bold and brash and innovative as California is we are now reduced to closing our state parks. Along with reducing medical care for children and young adults. This is beyond embarrassing.

In many professions, what used to matter most were abilities associated with the left side of the brain: linear, sequential, spreadsheet kind of faculties. Those still matter, but they're not enough. What's important now are the characteristics of the brain's right hemisphere: artistry, empathy, inventiveness, big-picture thinking. These skills have become first among equals in a whole range of business fields. --Daniel Pink on CNN.com

Will I Live to see 80?
Here's something to think
about.
I recently picked a new
primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was
doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I just turned 60.)
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you
think I'll live to be 80?' He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or
wine?'
'Oh no,' I replied.. 'I'm
not doing drugs, either!'
Then he asked, 'Do you
eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?
'I said, 'Not much... my
former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'
'Do you spend a lot of
time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'
'No, I don't,' I said.
He asked, 'Do you gamble,
drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?'
'No,' I said..
He looked at me and said,... 'Then, why do you even give a s***?

The farm is at 3000 feet, and the weather is very favorable, not too hot or humid. Remember that it is a rain forest, so come prepared with waterproof shoes and an umbrella. It can get cool at night, even in the tropics at our elevation.

The farm and class areas are at about 3000 feet elevation, so the humidity and heat are not as intense as near the ocean. It is a tropical rainforest, so be prepared for an occasional shower. The rain is warm, and I have found that light clothes that dry quickly are best. When I hike in my waterproof windbreaker I find that the sweat and heat of it is more irritating that getting a little wet from the rain. I like light weight easy dry long sleeve shirts, boots and umbrellas. Sometimes at night it cools down, so some fleece clothes that are warm wet or dry might be nice to bring along.
8. What do I need to bring for studying?
I am hoping that the students will spend more time listening and comprehending than taking notes. Craig is a retired psychiatrist. Maybe after dealing with thousands of crazy people he just became goofy. I introduced several women that my wife and I knew over the years but they all complained that after a couple of hours Craig started groping them. And some of these women were certainly not attractive...
Craig lives alone with his collie. As the years pass, Craig gets more goofy. I can tell because our paths only cross several times a year now. The last time I saw him Craig said he thinks his dog doesn't like him anymore either...
I've known Julian for a little over 20 years now. He was married when I first met him but got divorced several years later. He has lived with a half dozen women and had maybe two dozen girlfriends. He thinks I know nothing about women since I have been married to one for 40 years.
Julian thinks all women are prostitutes.
Jeffy lives by himself and doesn't work. Once a week on Sunday afternoons his girlfriend Liza comes over and they do whatever they do behind closed doors. She never comes over any other time; even Christmas or New Years if it's not a Sunday.
Jeffy's dad left him a big trust fund so Jeffy doesn't have to work. He paints but has to be categorized as strictly amateur. He drinks but I've never really seen him drunk and as far as I can tell he doesn't do drugs.
The big question with Jeffy is what the heck does he do all that time by himself?
Rational self-interest, egoism, in Ayn Rand's perception is not being Bernie Madoff, not thinking short-term and satisfying just whims, and cheating and lying and stealing. It is about pursuing what's truly in your rational, long-term self-interest, figuring out what's good for you, without exploiting, taking advantage, without stealing from other people, without sacrificing from other people to yourself. --Yaron Brook
as I was thinking about a few lonely people that I know and have known, I started remembering more and more of them. After 15 minutes the number was up to several dozen. It occurred to me that it would be easy to come up with several dozen more in a very short time...
All this from having an extensive mental databank of thousands of people....
Jim never married. He knew many people and was well known in arts and cultural groups throughout the area. We saw him on holidays and probably once a month for maybe 15 years. He was a bit of an eccentric and had wild tastes in women and clothes. He was a collector and an avid history and religious being able to quote the Bible at will and thousands of history facts and dates. We lost touch with Jim over a period of time as his vision deteriorated and he began to drink heavily.
One night his sister called to say she found him dead. The doctor said he had probably been dead for a week.
I see Tommy's Acura every day but rarely see Tommy. Tommy comes home from his office job and unless one happens to be out then, one simply does not see Tommy. In fact, I've seen Tommy at the corner liquor store more times than I've seen him at his house across the street.
Tommy lives by himself, comes every night and drinks himself into oblivion.

Rule 1 of social news is that not everyone will like your content. Rule 2 of social news is that you are going to hear about it. โThe hatersโ not only dislike your submissionโthey want the world to know about it. Unlike the troll (see below), the haters just hate your content, not you.
Maybe the content wasnโt substantial enough. Maybe they didnโt agree with your takeโinstead of quietly downvoting your submission, they are going to try to start a revolution. Odds are that these people only contribute to the community with negative comments and furies of hate. Your best bet is to just downvote these babies and not engage their whining.

for the past week or so I've been thinking about lonely people I've known and how their lives are so different from mine...funny how in the past few days I've heard from folks that I've not heard from in years. Some found me through my youtube channel; others said they just remembered something about me and was wondering what I was doing...
My friend Brian would call it a 'convergence' experience...yet some of these folks are physically thousands of miles away from me...power of suggestion?
